(LEBANON, Ill., March 18)--Brandon Patek of Missouri Baptist University and Michael Hufty of William Woods University have been selected as the American Midwest Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 17.
Selections for the AMC weekly baseball honors will continue through the AMC Tournament, which will be staged April 30-May 2. The AMC regular-season champion will host the four-team, double-elimination event.
Patek, a senior outfielder from Festus, Mo., went 13-for-29 at the plate to post a .448 batting average in eight games. Patek collected four doubles, two home runs and 11 runs batted in for the NAIA's No. 21-ranked team. An AMC Co-Newcomer of the Year in 2007, Patek is hitting .426 with four homers and 20 RBI this season.
Hufty, a junior from Silex, Mo., led William Woods to victory in the team's only game of the week, a 5-1 decision over Missouri Valley College. In five innings of work, Hufty allowed just two hits with one unearned run and six strikeouts. The win was the first of 2008 for Hufty, who won AMC Freshman of the Year honors two years ago.
