Day two action is almost complete at the 2008 American Midwest Conference Tournament, but not quite. The second day saw the Nol. 1 seeded Columbia Cougars continue their roll to the championship game while the Eagles of Williams Baptist College and the Owls of William Woods University battle to get to that game.
Columbia defeated William Woods in championship bracket play by a 10-6 margin to advance to the championship game while Williams Baptist battled through the consolation bracket in hopes of pulling the upset to get into the championship game. The Eagles captured a 1-0 win over the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University to eliminate them from the tournament and was leading the Bearcats of McKendree University 6-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when the game was suspended due to lightning.
Severe weather that rolled into the central Illinois area brought even more gusty winds, lightning and heavy rain which forced the game to be suspended. The game will be resumed beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26th and will be followed by the play-in game between William Woods University and the winner of that game.
The winner between William Woods and the winner of the Williams Baptist vs McKendree game will face Columbia in the AMC Championship Game, which will get underway at 1:00 p.m.
