(LEBANON, Ill., April 26)--The American Midwest Conference has announced the members of its 2008 Softball All-Conference team. The honors were released Saturday at the conclusion of the AMC Tournament, which was won by Columbia College.
Valerie Teter, a freshman pitcher/utility player from Columbia College, was selected as the 2008 AMC Softball Player of the Year as well as the AMC Freshman of the Year. Teter, who hails from Bevier, Mo., batted .391 during the regular season with eight home runs and 40 RBI at the plate. On the mound, Teter posted a record of 15-5 with an earned-run average of 1.09. She struck out 188 batters in 140 innings of work with 19 complete games and five shutouts.
Taking home AMC Pitcher of the Year honors for 2008 was another Columbia College hurler, Katie McMahon. In 19 games, McMahon registered 18 complete games with a record of 15-4. The Edina, Mo., native had an ERA of 1.24 and fanned 125 batters in 124 innings. Three of McMahon's four losses came to NAIA-ranked teams.
The 2008 AMC Newcomer of the Year, giving to the league's top transfer player, is Lindsey Parker from Missouri Baptist University. Parker, a junior pitcher/designated hitter from Wentzville, Mo., had a batting average of .442 during the regular season with five home runs and 36 RBI. Parker struck out just three times in 95 at-bats and had a slugging percentage of .485.
Wendy Spratt of Columbia College picked up AMC Coach of the Year honors. This marks the fifth time in her 12-year career that Spratt has earned the league's top coaching award. Spratt guided the Cougars to a 35-9 record this year (through the AMC Tournament), including a 12-2 mark in AMC action.
