(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 30)--McKendree University freshman Jasmine Penny has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for Sept. 30.

Penny, who hails from Sparta, Ill., made her first collegiate race over a five-kilometer course a successful one. In last Saturday's Southern Illinois University Saluki Invitational, Penny finished 32nd against a field consisting of mostly NCAA Division I runners. Penny registered a time of 20:35 over the five kilometers.

This is the second time in 2008 that McKendree has earned the women's cross country weekly honor. Sophy Yapsabila earned the honor two weeks ago.
