BROWN, MOFFITT NAMED AMC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

ST. LOUIS – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced its men's and women's basketball players of the week for the week ending February 5, 2017, this week's honorees are a repeat honoree, and a representative from a team who had not yet won the award this season. Xavielle Brown of Park University earned his second AMC Men's Basketball Player of the Week award of the season, and Andrea Moffitt became the first Williams Baptist College Lady Eagle to earn the honor in 2016-17.
Brown, a 6-3 senior forward from Ft. Wayne, Ind., opened the season with a solid effort against St. Louis College of Pharmacy, tallying 16 points in 21 minutes of play against the Eutectics. He followed that up with a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards against Williams Baptist, but his big game came on Saturday afternoon against the NAIA #22 Freed-Hardeman University Lions. In the game, Brown poured in 33 points on 14-for-19 shooting, and he had five rebounds, an assist and two blocked shots as the Pirates leap-frogged the Lions for second in the AMC.
Moffitt, a 5-11 senior forward from Lexington, Tenn., posted back-to-back double-doubles in the game, and she narrowly missed on a third as she helped the Lady Eagles battle their way back into the postseason picture. Moffitt opened the week with a big night in non-conference play, as she scored 12 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, dished out four assists, notched three blocked shots and swiped the ball three times against Greenville College. As good as she was against the Panthers, she was even better against the Park Pirates, scoring 20, grabbing 13 boards, and notching six assists, two blocks, and five steals. She capped her week off with a 16-point, nine rebound effort at Stephens College.

Jalen Fletcher – Harris-Stowe
Fletcher helped the Hornets run their winning streak to five by leading his team to a pair of wins over the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx that helped Harris-Stowe move up to sixth in the standings. After a notching six points, four rebounds, and four assists in St. Louis on Tuesday evening, he exploded on Saturday in Belleville, scoring 26 points and grabbing 10 boards.
Morgan Brandt – Columbia
Brandt had a pair of double-doubles in AMC play on the week. She scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Cougars beat #24 Lindenwood-Belleville in the Game of the Week, and she added 20 points, 17 boards, five assists, and five steals as the Cougars rolled past Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday.
