The Williams Baptist College men's soccer team scored three times in the first 18 minutes against Harris-Stowe State University on its way to a 3-0 victory. The American Midwest Conference Game of the Week was played in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
It only took 1:55 for the first goal to go in. Joao Rupp (FR/Sorocaba, Brazil) made a run from inside his own half, dribbling all the way down the field, before making a pass to Danilo Cruz (SR/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) who dribbled by the keeper and fired the ball into the net. It was the conference leading seventh goal for the senior.
Less than a minute later, Rupp went from provider to goal scorer, as he was played in behind the defense by a inch perfect through ball by Giovanni Souza (FR/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Rupp made no mistake, chipping the ball over the keeper to give WBC a 2-0 lead after three minutes of play.
The final goal of the match came in the 17th minute. Henrique Torres (FR/Brasilia, Brazil) raced onto a ball played by Luis Vojnovic (JR/Vitoria, ES, Brazil). Torres made no mistake when he got one-v-one with the keeper, giving Williams a 3-0 lead.
Neither team scored in the second half, and the Eagles cruised to the 3-0 conference win. It was the team's second straight shutout.
Both teams finished the game with ten shots. However, the Eagles placed eight on target, compared to just three for HSSU.
Cruz led the team with four shots, while Rupp, Rafael Faria (SO/Porto Alegre, Brazil), Torres, Fernando Moreto (SR/Vitoria - ES, Brazil), Trevor Thomas (SO/Paragould, Ark.), and Leandro Choi (SO/Sao Paulo, Brazil) each finished with one.
