(LEBANON, Ill., April 21)--William Woods University swept its way to the American Midwest Conference weekly baseball honors for April 13-19.
Tyler Tamayose was selected as the AMC Baseball Player of the Week, while Nick Wooley was named the AMC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. The honors were announced late Monday by the conference office.
Tamayose, a sophomore first baseman from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, posted a batting average of .667 with eight hits in 12 at-bats. Of those eight hits, Tamayose had a double and two home runs along with eight RBI. He scored three runs on the week and posted a slugging percentage of 1.250.
For the season, Tamayose leads William Woods with a batting average of .426, seven home runs and 43 RBI.
Wooley, a junior from Edwardsville, Ill., tossed a complete-game one-hitter in his only start of the week, an 8-1 victory over Missouri Baptist University. Wooley allowed one earned run with seven strikeouts. With the win, Wooley improved to 6-1 on the year with an earned-run average of 3.47. In 57 innings of work this season, Wooley has struck out 75 batters.
The William Woods University baseball team is 31-10 on the year and is 12-4 in AMC play.The Owls are ranked No. 20 in the latest NAIA coaches' poll.
