Tyler Tamayose batted .436 on his way to AMC Player of the Year honors in 2009
(LEBANON, Ill., May 5)-The American Midwest Conference revealed its 2009 Baseball All-Conference team Tuesday at the conclusion of the AMC Tournament. The honors were voted upon by the coaches of the league's six baseball institutions.

The 2009 AMC Player of the Year is Tyler Tamayose from William Woods University. Tamayose, a sophomore first baseman from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, registered a batting average of .436 during the regular season with seven home runs and 45 RBI. He also added 13 doubles on the year and had a .975 fielding percentage for the Owls.

There was a tie for the 2009 AMC Pitcher of the Year honors between Cale Johnson of McKendree University and Nick Wooley from William Woods University. Johnson, a senior from Greenville, Ill., was named the league's top pitcher in 2008. In 11 starts, Johnson had eight complete games and a record of 5-3. Johnson's earned-run average of 2.15 led the AMC in 2009, while he had 63 strikeouts for the Bearcats. Wooley, a junior from Edwardsville, Ill., was 7-1 on the season with an ERA of 3.23. Wooley fanned 81 batters prior to the conference tournament in just 64 innings of work. In addition to earning AMC Co-Pitcher of the Year honors, Wooley was selected as the AMC Newcomer of the Year, which is given to the conference's top transfer player.

Cody Ostmann of Harris-Stowe State University captured the 2009 AMC Freshman of the Year award. Ostmann worked out of the bullpen for the Hornets, posting a record of 4-7 with an ERA of 4.43. He earned two saves and limited opponents to a batting average of .256. Ostmann becomes the second consecutive Hornets' player to receive the AMC's top freshman honor.

For leading the McKendree University Bearcats to a 15-4-1 record and the AMC regular-season championship, Jim Boehne has been named the 2009 AMC Coach of the Year. Now in his 12th season at McKendree, Boehne has guided the Bearcats to seven post-season championships and 450 career wins heading into the league post-season tournament.
