The Missouri Baptist University Department of Athletics inducted the 2009 Spartan Hall of Fame class on Friday evening, November 13th. Mr. James Ott, former wrestling athlete and assistant coach at MBU, and Mr. Thomas Puhse, longtime Faculty Athletics Representative for MBU Athletics and the American Midwest Conference, were inducted into the Spartan Hall of Fame.
Presenting the award to Mr. Thomas Puhse was Spartan Hall of Fame member Mr. Andy Carter, former Director of Athletics, Head Baseball Coach, and athlete at MBU. Presenting the award to Mr. James Ott was Spartan Hall of Fame member Mike Winkelmann, former men's basketball athlete. In addition to the Hall of Fame ceremony, several student-athletes were recognized for their achievements.
Those student-athletes earning All-American honors for the 2008-2009 academic year were honored. MBU Athletics also announced the recipients of the 2009 Champions of Character and Scholar-Athlete Awards. Receiving the Champions of Character Award were men's soccer's Daniel Eddins and women's cross country's Katie Cline. Receiving the Scholar-Athlete Award were women's volleyball's Kaila Bequette and baseball's Rusty Hendricks.
MBU Director of Athletics Dr. Thomas Smith announced that Head Wrestling Coach Brian Jackson and Assistant Softball Coach Kenneth Messer-Brooks had received the Athletic Director's Coach and Assistant Coach of the Year honors respectively.
