(LEBANON, ill., Jan. 11)--Eric Hobbie of McKendree University has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 11.
Hobbie, a 6-6 junior forward from Vandalia, Ill., helped spark the Bearcats to a pair of victories to open AMC regular-season play. In the two games, Hobbie averaged 16.5 points and 12 rebounds per game. He shot 66.7 percent from the field (10-of-15), including a 50 percent clip (5-of-10) from three-point range. In addition, Hobbie made 8-of-10 free throw attempts. He also chipped in with seven steals, three assists and three blocks on the week.
In just 20 minutes of play in an 89-61 win at home against William Woods University, Hobbie posted 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. Playing through a back injury in a 74-59 win at Hannibal-LaGrange College, Hobbie collected his second straight double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Hobbie leads McKendree in scoring at 16.1 points per game and rebounds per 6.5 per contest. He also ranks among team leaders in blocks and steals. McKendree is currently 13-5 on the year and sits at 2-0 in AMC play.
