(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 25)--Herschel Rodgers from Park University has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 25. Rodgers was honored for his play in games played from Jan. 18-24. This is the second time in 2009-10 that Rodgers has earned AMC Player of the Week accolades.
Rodgers, a senior guard/forward from Lansing, Mich., was a big factor in leading the No. 25-ranked Pirates to three AMC victories last week. In the three games, Rodgers averaged 16.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest. He shot 46 percent from the field (17-of-37) and was perfect from the free throw line, making all 15 attempts on the week. That includes a 12-for-12 effort as Rodgers scored 22 points in a 68-65 Park win at Harris-Stowe State University.
In addition to his solid offensive numbers, Rodgers added nine assists, seven steals and blocked shot on the week.
For the season, Rodgers leads Park in both scoring (16.3 PPG) and rebounding (7.8 RPG). He also ranks among team leaders in assists, steals and free throw percentage. Park enters the week ranked No. 25 in NAIA Division I with a 13-6 overall record. The Pirates currently sit atop the AMC standings at 6-0 and are riding an eight-game win streak.
OTHERS NOMINATED FOR AMC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Logan Decker of William Woods University and Eric Hobbie of McKendree University.
