(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 2)--For the second consecutive week, Herschel Rodgers from Park University has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Rodgers, a senior guard/forward from Lansing, Mich., continued his superb play in two games for the Pirates last week. In those contests, Rodgers averaged 19 points and 10.5 rebounds per outing. He made 57.1 percent of his field goal attempts (12-of-21) and maintained his shooting touch from the free throw line, making 14-of-17 tries (82.4 percent). Rodgers had a streak of 22 consecutive free throws made that was snapped when he missed his first attempt against McKendree University on Saturday.
In addition to his solid offensive numbers, Rodgers added four assists, six steals and a blocked shot in the two contests.
Rodgers scored 19 points in both games last week for Park, a 105-65 home win over Missouri Baptist University and an 80-74 loss at home against No. 7-ranked McKendree University. Against the Bearcats, Rodgers netted a double-double with 13 points to go along with his 19 points. He also had five steals in the contest.
Through 21 games, Rodgers leads the Pirates in scoring (16.6 PPG) and rebounding (8.0). He also ranks among team leaders with 50 assists and 49 steals. Park is 14-7 overall and 7-1 in the AMC. The Pirates are ranked No. 24 in NAIA Division I.
