(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 20)-The McKendree University men's indoor track and field team pulled away from Missouri Baptist University to claim the American Mdiwest Conference Championship Friday in Columbia, Mo.
As a team, McKendree posted a total of 209 points to finish 50 points in front of runner-up Missouri Baptist, which had 159 points. William Woods University was third with 108 points while Hannibal-LaGrange College collected 54 points.
Anthony Stockton of William Woods was selected as the AMC Oustanding Field Athlete. Stockton captured the title in the weight throw and took second place in the shot put. DeWain Meeks from Missouri Baptist garned AMC Outstanding Track Athlete honors at Friday's meet. Meeks won the 60-meter dash along with the 200-meter dash.
McKendree head coach Neal West was recognized as the 2010 AMC Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year. West, who also earned AMC Women's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year accolades, is in his third season at McKendree. West also led the Bearcats to AMC outdoor titles in 2008 and 2009.
AMC teams will now ready for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship, which will be staged March 4-6 in Johnson City, Tenn.
