KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Park University senior Herschel Rodgers capped a stellar two-year career in a Pirate uniform by being named a Third-Team All-American by the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Association All-America Committee, announced Tuesday by the NAIA headquarters in Kansas City, Mo.

In all, three All-America teams were chosen, consisting of 10 student-athletes on the first, second and third teams, while an honorable mention list was also released in advance of the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship game. The 6-foot-1 Rodgers, a native of Lansing, Mich., averaged 15.3 points and 7.2 rebounds in 2009-10, topping the team in both categories while playing both inside and outside for the Pirates during the team's run to the NAIA national tournament.

He played in 30 games and started in 28, finishing second on the team in steals with 66 while leading the team at the foul line, hitting 131-of-169, 77.5-percent. He ranked No. 19 in the NAIA in steals per game, No. 27 in offensive rebounds, No. 30 in total steals and No. 44 in rebounds per contest.

Rodgers was a first-team all-conference selection in the American Midwest Conference, and he finished the year with 24 double-figure scoring games and six double-doubles, helping the team to its first appearance in the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship since the 2006-07 season.

Park University opened the tournament with an 83-75 victory over No. 11 Georgetown College (Ky.), and Rodgers finished the contest with 24 points, including 9-of-17 from the floor and 6-of-8 at the foul line.

"Herschel is a warrior," said head coach Jason Kline after the Pirates' opening-round win. "He got some big rebounds for us and went strong to the basket. That's all you can ask out of him. He is a competitor."

Rodgers also had a team-high 15 points in Park's second-round loss to No. 6 Biola University, as the Pirates finished the season 23-10, marking the school's fourth trip to the NAIA postseason in its men's basketball history.

For Rodgers, 2009-10 was his second-straight season averaging double figures after posting 11 points per game in 2008-09.
