(LEBANON, Ill., April 6)--The American Midwest Conference has released its weekly award recipients for Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors.
Armando Gutierrez of Missouri Baptist University was selected as the AMC Baseball Player of the Week, while Dave Reynolds of Williams Baptist College has been chosen as the AMC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Both Gutierrez and Reynolds were picked for the honors based on their performances in games played from March 29-April 4.
Gutierrez, a junior outfielder from New York, N.Y., wielded a hot bat for the Spartans, hitting .682 for the week (15-of-22). He had three doubles and two home runs along with seven runs batted in as Missouri Baptist won all seven games played on the week. Gutierrez also had nine runs scored, two walks and a pair of stolen bases.
Missouri Baptist ended the week riding a 13-game win streak, which included a four-game AMC sweep at McKendree University April 2-3.
Reynolds, a senior from Grandin, Mo., earned a win in two appearances last week. He tossed a complete-game three-hitter in the Eagles 4-0 home victory against Park University. Reynolds walked one and struck out five in notching his third complete game and second shutout of 2010. Reynolds improved to 4-1 on the year with the win over Park.
