PARKVILLE, Mo.  - Matt Lackner tossed the third no-hitter in Park University baseball history Sunday afternoon at Comfort Field, beating the University of Saint Mary 10-0 to lead off a doubleheader sweep of the Spires, as the Pirates also won game two, 7-1, to improve to 16-8 on the year.

Lackner improved to 2-3 with the no-hitter, striking out nine to run his team-leading season total to 40 strike outs, which also moved his career total to 109, which now ranks fifth on Park's career list, two behind Bo Prather on the all-time list. Saint Mary fell to 4-28 with the pair of losses, and Ryan Rush had a big day for the Pirates at the plate, going 7-for-8 with a double and a home run. Darian Sandford had six stolen bases on the day, including five in game two, moving his career total to 74. He now has 31 steals in 2010, which ranks second behind his 43 from last season in the Park career record book.

The Pirates got things going in the doubleheader early, scoring two runs in the first inning of game one on a sacrifice fly by Cody Spaulding, followed by a double from Rush that brought home Michael Onwumere to make it 2-0.

Park tacked on three more in the third, including a solo home run from Mike Elliott, and in the fifth, Park got three more runs, including RBIs from Ricardo Torres, Sam Tracy and Sandford. Torres finished the game with three driven in.

Rush, who drove in three, would end the game an inning later, homering to left field to make it 10-0, preserving Lackner's no hitter with a run-rule victory.

In game two, James Parsons improved his pitching record to 4-1 by striking out four in his third complete game of the year.

Rush was 3-for-4 in the second game, while Spaulding drove in two. Park again scored two runs in the opening inning, beginning when Sandford scored after a stolen base on a throwing error by the Spires, followed by an RBI ground-out by Onwumere that made it 2-0.

Park got two more in the third on RBIs by Elliott and Jimmy Smelcer, and after a Saint Mary run in the fourth, Park added two in its half of the inning, followed by an insurance run in the sixth to preserve game two's 7-1 win.

The Pirates will play one more nonconference game before resuming play in the AMC, Tuesday afternoon at William Jewell College with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Park resumes its conference schedule with a pair of doubleheaders at Missouri Baptist University.
