KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Park University senior right-handed pitcher Matt Lackner was named NAIA National Pitcher of the Week Tuesday after throwing a six-inning no-hitter Sunday afternoon against the University of Saint Mary.

Lackner (Kansas City, Kan.) is 2-3 on the season and was dominant in his only start last week, striking out nine and allowing only two baserunners - one by walk and one hit by pitch - in a 10-0 win over Saint Mary. Lackner retired 12-straight after hitting the Spires' leadoff man to begin the game, and in the 12-batter stretch, he struck out six. After a walk to lead off the fifth, Lackner retired six-straight, including three fanned batters.

He finished the no-hitter in just 75 pitches, as the Pirates ended the game an inning early on a walk-off two-run homer by Ryan Rush that secured the team's 10-run rule, 10-0 win.

On the year, Lackner has 40 strike outs and four complete games, including Sunday's no-hitter, in six starts. Lackner now has 109 career strikeouts, which ranks fifth in Park's all-time history.

He recorded a strikeout in each frame during Sunday's game, including multiple Ks in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

In national statistics, Lackner ranks 34th in strikeouts per nine innings (10.19). His nine strikeouts against St. Mary moved his team-leading total to 40 on the year and his career total to 109, which now ranks fifth in the school record book. Lackner stands 2-3 on the hill this year with a 4.84 ERA in 35.1 innings.

Lackner also won the AMC Pitcher of the Week for April 5-11, and was joined in the conference awards by senior second baseman Darian Sandford, who was named AMC Player of the Week. In the national category, Lackner was joined by NAIA Player of the Week Jeremiah McMillan from Bluefield College (Ky.)

The Pirates (16-9, 5-5 AMC) return to action Friday against Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis.
