Valerie Teter was a repeat selection as the AMC Softball Pitcher of the Year
(LEBANON, Ill., May 7)--The American Midwest Conference has announced the members of its 2010 Softball All-Conference team. The honors were released at the conclusion of the AMC Softball Tournament, which was won by Columbia College in a two-game sweep of McKendree University on Friday in Columbia, Mo.

Kelsey Schulte, a sophomore outfielder/pitcher from Honey Creek, Mo., was honored as the 2010 AMC Softball Player of the Year. Schulte batted .383 during the regular season with 12 doubles, six triples, eight home runs and 35 RBI for the Owls. Schulte led the AMC in hits and slugging percentage while she tied for the conference lead in home runs and triples. She was also the 2009 AMC Freshman of the Year.

Earning her second straight AMC Pitcher of the Year award is Valerie Teter of Columbia College. Teter, a junior from Bevier, Mo., led the Cougars with a 23-6 record and an earned-run average of 1.25 during the 2010 regular season. She struck out 299 batters during the regular season and went on to shatter Columbia's single-season strikeout mark during the conference tournament. In AMC play alone, Teter was 11-2 with a 0.89 ERA as the Cougars grabbed a share of the AMC regular-season championship. Teter was the AMC Player of the Year as a freshman in 2008.

The 2010 AMC Newcomer of the Year award, which is presented to the conference's top transfer player, was given to Mandi Dennis of Park University. In her first season with the Pirates, Dennis, a sophomore outfielder from Liberty, Mo., batted .403 with eight doubles, six triples, two home runs and 18 RBI. Dennis ranked among conference leaders with 35 runs scored and 52 base hits. She also stole 13 bases in 16 attempts.

Karisa Hendrix of Williams Baptist College was honored as the 2010 AMC Freshman of the Year. Hendrix, from Cherokee Village, Ark., had an impressive rookie season with the Eagles, posting a 15-4 record with one save and an earned-run average of 1.27. In 126 innings of work, Hendrix struck out 134 batters with just 33 walks. Hendrix had a 0.87 ERA in AMC play, which was second overall.

The 2010 AMC Softball Coach of the Year is Eric Newell of Williams Baptist College. Newell led the Eagles to a 12-4 conference record and a share of the AMC regular-season championship. Williams Baptist was 30-9 heading into the AMC Tournament under Newell's guidance. This is the first AMC Coach of the Year award for Newell, who is in his fourth season at Williams Baptist.
