(LEBANON, Ill., May 17)-William Woods University has claimed the 2010 American Midwest Conference championship in women's golf. The Owls had the highest finish among the five AMC schools that competed in the AMC/Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference/Mid-Central College Conference Unaffiliated Tournament held May 10-11 at the Spencer T. Olin Community Golf Course in Alton, Ill.

     The Owls posted a team score of 643 over the 36 holes to earn the title as the AMC's top squad. William Woods outdistanced runner-up McKendree University by 54 strokes. Park University finished in third place, followed by Missouri Baptist University and Hannibal-LaGrange College.

Stephane Bruemmer of William Woods was the individual tournament champion. Bruemmer, a sophomore from Jefferson City, Mo., carded a 36-hole score of 159 to hold off teammate Lindsey Johnson by two strokes. The Owls' Naomi Starr and Elizabeth Welker finished in a tie for third place along with Plern Prombboobpa of Park University at 162.

Jada Bennington of William Woods earned the honors as the 2010 AMC Women's Golf Player of the Year. Bennington, a sophomore from Beloit, Wis., earned a spot in the field for the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship as she posted a score of 167 in the AMC Tournament. Starr was selected as the AMC Freshman of the Year, while Jessica Kraus from Missouri Baptist University was selected as the AMC Newcomer of the Year. The Owls' Barry Doty was honored as the AMC Coach of the Year for 2010.

By winning the AMC/CCAC/MCC Unaffiliated Tournament, William Woods earned a spot in the field for the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship. The event will be held May 25-28 in Rapid City, South Dakota.
