(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 31)—The American Midwest Conference has released its list of 2007 women’s soccer award winners. The honors were voted upon by the league’s five head coaches.

Ashley Morgan of William Woods University has been named the 2007 AMC Women’s Soccer Player of the Year. Morgan, a junior forward from Valparaiso, Ind., tallied 13 goals and seven assists for 33 total points. She was a three-time recipient of AMC Offensive Player of the Week accolades. This marks the first time that an Owls’ player has garnered AMC Women’s Soccer Player of the Year honors since Erin Jewell captured the award in 2002.

The 2007 AMC Newcomer of the Year award, given to the league’s top transfer player, was presented to Jenni Schoon of McKendree University. Schoon, a junior forward from Morton, Ill., registered seven goals with four assists in her first season with the Bearcats. Schoon’s 18 points rank second on the McKendree squad. Schoon was a key ingredient as the Bearcats notched their fifth consecutive AMC regular-season championship.

Alysa Askew of Hannibal-LaGrange College was selected as the 2007 AMC Freshman of the Year. Askew, a midfielder from St. Jacob, Ill., led the Trojans with five goals and five assists during her rookie season. This marks the second year in a row that Hannibal-LaGrange has had a player earn AMC Freshman of the Year honors.

For the fifth straight year – and sixth time in the last seven years – Tim Strange of McKendree University is the AMC Coach of the Year. Now in his ninth season at the helm of the Bearcat women’s soccer program, Strange guided McKendree to a 12-2-2 overall record and a 4-0 mark in conference play. The Bearcats clinched their fifth consecutive AMC regular-season title in 2007, and carry a 21-match AMC winning streak.

The AMC Fair Play and Sportsmanship Award is also voted upon by the conference coaches. This annual award is presented to the program that exhibits those qualities. The 2007 AMC women’s soccer Fair Play and Sportsmanship Award winner is Harris-Stowe State University.
