(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 1)—The American Midwest Conference has announced its list of men’s soccer post-season award winners. The honors were voted upon by the conference’s eight men’s head soccer coaches prior to the AMC Play-In Tournament.

Gareth Batchelor of McKendree University has been chosen as the 2007 AMC Men’s Soccer Player of the Year. Batchelor, a senior midfielder from Southampton, England, collected 12 goals and seven assists during regular-season play for McKendree. Batchelor’s 31 points played a big role in the Bearcats’ run to the AMC regular-season championship. Batchelor is the first McKendree player to earn the conference’s Player of the Year honor since Francisco Mosca accomplished the feat in 2002.

The 2007 AMC Newcomer of the Year award was won by Jakub Piotrowski from the University of Illinois at Springfield. Piotrowski, a junior forward from Harwood Heights, Ill., led the AMC in scoring during the regular season. He picked up 15 goals with six assists for 36 total points. He was a three-time honoree as AMC Offensive Player of the Week. The AMC Newcomer of the Year award is presented to the league’s top transfer player.

McKendree University’s Bill Puckett has been named the 2007 AMC Freshman of the Year. Puckett, a forward from Southampton, England, scored a team-high 14 goals and posted 29 points for the Bearcats in his rookie season. This marks the fourth consecutive year that a forward has earned the top AMC freshman award.

Tim Strange of McKendree University has been honored as the 2007 AMC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year. Strange, in his 14th season as the head coach of the Bearcats’ men’s program, guided McKendree to a perfect 7-0 record in league play. During the 2007 regular season, McKendree went 16-1-1 overall and climbed to No. 15 in the final NAIA soccer poll of the year. Strange was also named the 2007 AMC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year earlier this week.

The AMC Fair Play and Sportsmanship Award is also voted upon by the conference coaches. This annual award is presented to the program that exhibits those qualities. The 2007 AMC men’s soccer Fair Play and Sportsmanship Award winner is Williams Baptist College.
