The 2007 AMC Libero of the Year is Tracey Abell of Missouri Baptist University. Abell, a junior from St. Peters, Mo., was named the AMC’s top libero for the third straight year. She handled 831 digs for the Spartans to average 6.7 per game. Abell also posted a reception percentage of .943 in 1,068 reception chances and served up 59 aces in regular-season action for Missouri Baptist.
Taking the AMC Newcomer of the Year award for the league’s top transfer player is Daniela Brazolino of Columbia College. Brazolino, a senior outside hitter from Minas Gerais, Brazil, contributed 248 kills in 73 games for the Cougars. She also had 32 service aces, 163 digs and 22 total blocks in helping Columbia to a perfect 14-0 record in AMC play.
Shannalei Seau-Gibson of Hannibal-LaGrange College received the 2007 AMC Freshman of the Year award. Seau-Gibson, a setter/outside hitter from San Marcos, Calif., played in 96 games for the Trojans. She posted 222 kills with 393 assists, 74 service aces and 272 digs. In addition, Seau-Gibson collected 56 blocks, including 23 solos.
Eric Newell of Williams Baptist College capped a successful rookie season on the bench for the Eagles by picking up AMC Coach of the Year accolades. Newell, who was an assistant coach for the 2006 Williams Baptist program, led the Eagles to a 24-9 regular-season record and a mark of 7-7 in conference matches. At one point, Williams Baptist enjoyed an 11-match win streak in 2007.
