
St. Louis, Mo. - Kelsey Schulte and Caroline Sicht of the William Woods University Owls softball team have been named American Midwest Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. The duo takes the first honors of the 2012 season.
A senior from Honey Creek, Mo., Kelsey Schulte recorded both wins on the mound for the Owls this week as her squad finished 2-2. In a 9-1 win over Lyon (Ark.) College Kelsey threw six innings, fanned 10 batters and gave up just one walk and one earned run. She also held the opponent to just three hits. Schulte helped her team on the offensive end as well, hitting a sacrifice fly and a three run homer. The next day she returned in relief against Lindenwood University-Belleville, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings to pick up the win for the Owls. She allowed just one hit while striking out four.
Caroline Sicht led the Owls offensively through their four game weekend, hitting 0.571 with a 0.929 slugging average, earning her player of the week honors. The freshman from Columbia, Mo. went 8-for-14 and scored three runs, drove in four and collected a walk. Add to that a solo homerun and two doubles for the designated hitter in just her second weekend of play.
The Owls are 3-3 on the season so far and return to the field this weekend for their first games at home.
