2006 Player and Pitcher of the Week Honorees

Lebanon, Ill. – Rick Simpson of Missouri Baptist University has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Player of the Week for March 27. Simpson, a senior outfielder from Pevely, Mo., batted .625 for the week with seven runs scored, one double and three RBI. In addition, Simpson stole seven bases in eight attempts on the week, including a 4-for-4 performance in the Spartans' 11-4 win against Ashford University. Also Nominated: Mike Carmi of Hannibal-LaGrange College and Craig Session of McKendree College. Pitcher of the Week – Cale Johnson, McKendree College Lebanon, Ill. – Cale of McKendree College is the March 27 honoree as the American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week. Johnson, a freshman right-hander from Greenville, Ill., tossed his first career no-hitter in the Bearcats' 10-0 victory in game two of a doubleheader against Brescia University on Sunday. Johnson struck out one batter and relied on his defense for the gem. Johnson is now 4-0 on the season with a 2.16 earned-run average.
