2007 Player and Pitcher of the Week Honorees

– Angel Samuel of Missouri Baptist University has been selected as the
American Midwest Conference Baseball Player of the Week for April 23.
Samuel, a senior infielder from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, paced the Spartans
to a 5-1 record on the week. He batted .565 over six games (13-for-23) with
three home runs and 10 runs batted in. Samuel drove in at least one run in
all six Missouri Baptist games last week as the Spartans jumped into the
lead in the AMC standings. Samuel also scored eight runs and stole a pair of
bases for Missouri Baptist. For the season, Samuel is hitting .392 with four
home runs and 34 RBI. Pitcher of the Week – Cale Johnson, McKendree College Lebanon, Ill.

College is the April 23 honoree as the American Midwest Conference Pitcher
of the Week. Johnson, a sophomore right-hander from Greenville, Ill.,
pitched his second career no-hitter to highlight an impressive week that
included two AMC victories. Johnson struck out five and needed 93 pitches
for his no-hitter April 21 against Harris-Stowe State University, which came
in a 7-0 Bearcat victory. Johnson also tossed a complete-game two-hitter to
defeat AMC leader Missouri Baptist University, 8-2. In 14 innings of work,
Johnson allowed just one earned run, two hits and struck out eight batters.
He leads McKendree with a 6-2 record and an ERA of 3.49. |
