Men's Basketball - Eddie Smith, University of Illinois at Springfield
For the second consecutive week, Eddie Smith of the University of Illinois at Springfield has been named the American Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Smith, a 6-2 senior guard from Springfield, Ill., earned the Jan. 22 honor with his performance in two more AMC victories last week for the Prairie Stars. Smith averaged 22.5 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in leading Illinois-Springfield to wins over Hannibal-LaGrange College and Columbia College. Smith had 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the 83-65 win against Hannibal-LaGrange and followed that with a 21-point, four-rebound, nine-assist outburst in an 88-72 win at Columbia College. He shot 57.1 percent from the field (16-of-28) and 92.9 percent from the free throw line (13-of-14).

Women's Basketball - Chanel Ross, Harris-Stowe State University
Chanel Ross of Harris-Stowe State University stood above all challengers to pick up the American Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for Jan. 22. Ross, a 5-5 junior guard from Philadelphia, Pa., delivered some eye-popping numbers in leading the Hornets to a pair of AMC victories last week. Ross averaged 20.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals in three games, and nearly recorded a quadruple-double in the two league victories. Ross had 17 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and eight steals in Harris-Stowe's 74-53 win over William Woods University, and she backed that up with 29 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and eight steals in a 92-71 defeat of McKendree College. Ross shot 56.8 percent from the field (25-of-44) and 83.3 percent from the foul line (5-of-6).
