Men's Basketball - Nahowan Saxon, Columbia College
Nahowan Saxon of Columbia College has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 17. Saxon, a 6-5 junior forward from Ashton Union Island, St. Vincent, helped lead the Cougars to three victories last week. He averaged 17 points and 14. 7 rebounds for the week while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 88.9 percent from the free throw line. In Columbia's 66-48 AMC victory at Harris-Stowe State College, Saxon collected 22 points and 23 rebounds, falling just three shy of the Cougars' single-game rebound record. Saxon also added two assists, two blocked shots and three steals during the week.

Women's Basketball - Shanna Lonsberry, William Woods University
Shanna Lonsberry of William Woods University has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 17. Lonsberry, a 5-5 junior guard from Elsberry, Mo., led the Owls to a perfect 3-0 record on the week. She averaged 15.7 points and seven rebounds per game while dishing out 3.3 assists and picking up 2.3 steals per game. Lonsberry shot 60 percent from the floor and hit five three-point field goals on the week. She scored 20 points against Harris-Stowe State College in helping the Owls pick up their first conference victory of the season. She also recorded a double-double against Stephens College, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
