| March 4, 2000 NEWS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Hannibal-LaGrange College Captures Automatic Bid
Columbia, Mo. The Hannibal-LaGrange College women's basketball team secured its spot in the NAIA National Tournament bracket tonight, defeating William Woods University in the championship game of the American Midwest Conference post-season tournament. Hannibal, the #1 seed, defeated the #3 seed, William Woods, 83-63. The Trojans will compete in the NAIA's 32-team national tournament on March 15-21 at the Oman Arena in Jackson, Tenn. In addition, in a vote by league coaches, Stephanie Sebacher, a 6-0 forward for the William Woods University Owls, has been chosen as the 1999-00 AMC Most Valuable Player for women's basketball. The junior from Jonesburg, Mo. averaged 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game during the regular-season. Sebacher shot 55 percent from the field, connecting on 139 of her 255 attempts. Delena White, a 5-10 forward for the Hannibal-LaGrange College Trojans, is the 1999-00 AMC Freshman of the Year. White, who hails from Shelbyville, Ind., led the Trojans in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game this season. She passed out close to three assists per outing as well, helping the Trojans to a first place finish in AMC regular-season competition. The AMC Newcomer of the Year honor is bestowed upon the top transfer student in the AMC. Kim Woodruff, a 5-7 junior guard for Missouri Baptist College, is the 1999-00 recipient of this award for women's basketball. Woodruff, a native of St. James, Mo., averaged 9.3 points and passed out a league high 5.6 assists per outing in the regular-season. The AMC Coach of the Year is Lowell Pitzer from Missouri Baptist College. Pitzer led the Spartans to an AMC regular-season record of 5-5 and a fourth place finish in AMC regular-season play. Pitzer is in his 3rd season as the head coach at Missouri Baptist. A complete list of the 11-member AMC All-Conference team, the Honorable Mention squad and the Academic All-Conference team, is included below. Members of the Academic All-Conference team have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. |
