Erin
Jewell Earns Most Valuable Player Accolades for Second Consecutive Year Columbia,
Mo. –
For the second time in as many seasons, in a vote by league
coaches, Erin Jewell, a senior forward for the William Woods University
Owls, has been named the 2002 American Midwest Conference Most Valuable
Player in women’s soccer. The Kelso, Wash. native, who appeared in 16
games in her final campaign as an Owl, scoring 12 goals and contributing
seven assists. Kelly
Prince, a midfielder for the Missouri Baptist University Spartans, is the
2002 AMC Freshman of the Year. It is the third time in as many seasons
that the a Spartan player has collected this award. In Prince’s first
collegiate season, she tallied five goals and passed out 15 assists,
helping her squad finish atop the AMC standings. Prince hails from Cary,
Ill. Aubrey Pepper,
also a midfielder for the Spartans, is the 2002 recipient of the AMC
Newcomer of the Year award. The Newcomer of the Year honor is handed out
the top transfer-student in the AMC, as voted on by league coaches. Pepper
is a native of Littleton, Co. In 20 games, she totaled nine goals and 11
assists during the regular season The
American Midwest Conference Coach of the Year is Juan Pablo Favero from
Missouri Baptist University. Favero led the Spartans to a regular season
mark of 16-2-2 and a conference record of 3-0-1. The
Fair Play & Sportsmanship Award is annually presented to one AMC
women’s soccer squad based on two areas of sportsmanship. First, teams
are awarded points based on their total number of red and yellow cards
accumulated throughout the regular season. Second, AMC coaches vote on the
squads, ranking their level of sportsmanship during their respective
contests. The 2002 recipient of the Fair Play Award & Sportsmanship
Award is Harris-Stowe State College. A
