Harry Statham is the third-winningest men's college basketball coach all-time at a four-year level institution after spending 52 seasons at his alma McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois. Statham compiled a 1,122-513 (.686) overall record and coached in a record 1,635 collegiate games his career, more games than any other men's college basketball coach.

During his storied career at McKendree, Statham led the Bearcats to post-season play 41 times. He coached McKendree to all 15 of its NAIA national tournament berths, including runs of five straight appearances from 1999-2004 and again from 2006-11. Statham’s teams averaged 22 wins per season since his first season of 1966-67 and reached the 20-win mark 35 times under his tutelage.

He led the Bearcat program to 12 AMC championships and received the AMC Coach of the Year award eight times. In total, Statham had a 523-169 record (.756 winning percentage) as a member of the AMC and Show-Me Collegiate Conference, including nearly 200 conference regular-season wins.

He is one of just five men's coaches in college basketball history at the four-year level of any division to reach the 1,000-win mark. On November 13, 2009, Statham collected his 1,000th career victory when McKendree defeated East-West University 79-49. That victory made him the first member of the 1,000-win club.

The list of awards and honors received by Statham is endless. He was selected as the 2001-02 NAIA Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year and was also a six-time recipient of NAIA District 20 Coach of the Year honors. He was named the NAIA-Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year 12 times.

Statham's career accomplishments and achievements were recognized with his 1998 induction into the NAIA Hall of Fame. He is also a 1987 inductee into the IBCA-NAIA Hall of Fame a 2012 inductee into the McKendree University Sports Hall of Fame.

During his tenure at McKendree, Statham coached 73 different players that received post-season accolades. Ten of those players went on to earn NAIA All-America honors. In all, Statham coached seven players that earned AMC Player of the Year honors.

He served as McKendree’s athletic director from his arrival in 1966 until May 2010. Under Statham’s leadership as athletic director, the number of athletic programs offered grew from just a handful of offerings to 24 sports and the Bearcats finished first in the Presidents' Cup Standings 10 times. Statham was honored as the NAIA Central Region Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) in 1998-99. He was also recognized as the American Midwest Conference and NAIA Region V Athletic Director of the Year in 2007-08.
