AMC Men's Soccer Quarterfinals Recap
St. Louis, Mo. - The top four seeds advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 American Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Tournament with victories on Wednesday.
Game #1 - (1) William Woods def. (8) Health Sciences & Pharmacy, 7-0 (BOX SCORE)
The William Woods offensive line was unrelenting, with standout performances from several key players. Miles Andrews led the way, netting two goals with assists from David Fink and Pedro Salmon. Charlie Williams added a goal with an assist by David Fink, who also scored once himself. Benjamin Lachaize (two goals) and TJ Mathias were the Owls' other scorers. The Owls' defense held UHSP without a shot on goal.
Game #2 - (4) Columbia def. (5) Harris-Stowe, 4-0 (BOX SCORE)
From the starting whistle, Columbia established control, with Joshua Peterson opening the scoring just over eight minutes into the game. The Cougars held a 1-0 lead at halftime, setting the stage for a second-half surge. Wil Essner added to the tally at the 61-minute mark with an assist from Cooper Allen. The Cougars finished off their scoring with goals by Luke Hynes and James McFarlane, contributing goals at 73:08 and 78:16, respectively, both assisted by Peterson. Alejandro Munoz made three saves in the shutout victory.
Game #3 - (3) Williams Baptist def. (6) Hannibal-LaGrange, 3-0 (BOX SCORE)
From the outset, Williams Baptist had control, entering halftime with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Pedro Paulo and Lucas Belinello at 38:57 and 42:44, respectively. The home team maintained their momentum into the second half, with Hugo Gil sealing the win with a decisive strike at 85:05. Key contributors on the offensive end included Adrian Briceno, Arthur Ferreira, and Jacobo Obradors, each providing assists that led to the Eagles' goals. Defensively, goalkeeper Rodrigo Pina made one save.
Game #4 - (2) Missouri Baptist def. (7) Central Baptist, 4-1 (BOX SCORE)
Missouri Baptist got the scoring started early, as forward Sergej Misic, assisted by Marko Dordevic, found the net at 4:31. The Mustangs tied it on Brayden Hall's goal, assisted by Manny Almaraz, at 13:19. However, the Spartans responded quickly with Dordevic scoring at 14:57 with an assist from Jovan Mihajlovic, taking a 2-1 lead into the half. The second half saw Missouri Baptist solidify their command of the game. Anthony Coppotelli struck a powerful blow at 69:04, assisted once again by Dordevic. Edvin Mahmutovic's unassisted goal at 79:20, sealed the victory for Missouri Baptist.
The semifinals of the AMC Men's Soccer Tournament are Saturday, November 9 with Columbia traveling to William Woods and Williams Baptist traveling to Missouri Baptist. Both games are scheduled for a 7:00 pm kickoff. The winners will advance to the Championship match, scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, with an automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament up for grabs.
