AMC Indoor Track and Field Championship Preview

St. Louis, Mo. -The American Midwest Conference (AMC) Indoor Track and Field Championship is set to take place on Saturday, February 17 at the Coach Crafton Center in Elsah, Ill. Field events start at 10:00 a.m. with the women's weight throw and high jump, and men's pole vault and long jump. The distance medley relay gets the running events started with the women at 11:45 am and men at 12:05 pm.

Participating teams include: Columbia College, Cottey College (women only), Hannibal-LaGrange University, Harris-Stowe State University, Haskell Indian Nations University, Missouri Baptist University, University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy, William Woods University and Williams Baptist University. Haskell joined the AMC this year as a single-sport member for track and field.

Women's Notes

  • Five individuals return to defend their 2023 title - Cottey's Hannah Hayduk (400-m), Health Sciences & Pharmacy's Alyssa McPike (600-m), Missouri Baptist's Mia Reed (1000-m), William Woods' Mekayla Gibson (5000-m) and Crystal Ruden (high jump).
  • Ruden was last year's Freshman of the Year behind a first-place finish in the high jump, third-place finish in the 800-meters, sixth-place finish in the mile and was part of the second-place finishing 4x800 relay team.
  • Defending team champion William Woods, won its Conference record sixth team title last year, beating out Columbia by 19 points (193-174). Leads the AMC with six team championships and The Owls also have a Conference-best 70 individual and relay champions.
  • William Woods returns a Conference-best 13 individuals who scored points for the team at last year's Championship. Cottey College has six-point scorers back, while Hannibal-LaGrange, Health Sciences & Pharmacy and Missouri Baptist all have five individuals back who scored points in the 2023 Championship.
  • Three AMC athletes or relay teams have hit the NAIA A-Standard during their season.
    • Mia Reed, Missouri Baptist - 1000m (2:58.25) and 3000m (10:13.62)
    • Mekayla Gibson, William Woods - 5000m (17:50.02)
    • Missouri Baptist 4x800 relay team (9:34.70)
  • Three AMC athletes have hit the NAIA-B Standard.
    • Madalenn Fee, Cottey 800m (2:17.88) and 1000m (3:00.12)
    • Mekayla Gibson, William Woods - 3000m (10:13.62)
    • Alaina Scott, Missouri Baptist - pole vault (3.50m)

Men's Notes

  • Seven individuals return to defend their 2023 title, six of whom were double winners - Grant Erisman (long jump and triple jump), and Grant Frantz (shot put and weight throw), Health Sciences and Pharmacy's Jahari Hines (200-m and 400-m), Missouri Baptist's Camden Woolbright (Pole Vault) and Donovan Denslow (3000-m and 5000-m), William Woods' Landon Dunlap (1000-m and Mile). Columbia's Jason Parker will look to defend his high jump title.
  • Woolbright was the Athlete of the Meet and Outstanding Field Athlete. In addition to the aforementioned first-place finishes, he was runner-up in the high jump, long jump, triple jump and part of the second-place finishing 4x400 relay team.
  • Defending team champion Columbia won its Conference-record fifth team title last year, edging out Missouri Baptist by 9.33 points (202.33-193). All-time, William Woods has a Conference-best 65 individual and relay champions.
  • Missouri Baptist returns a Conference-best 10 individuals who scored points for the team at last year's Championship. William Woods has nine point scorers back, followed by Columbia (8 scorers) and Williams Baptist (7 scorers).
  • Five AMC Athletes have hit NAIA A-Standard during their season.

    • Isaiah Hoelscher, Hannibal-LaGrange - weight throw (17.36m)
    • Mayson DeRousse , Missouri Baptist - pole vault (5.15m)
    • Landon Dunlap, William Woods - mile (4:14.63)
    • Donovan Denslow, Missouri Baptist - 5000m (14:36.49)
  • Three AMC athletes or relay teams achieved the B-Standard.
    • Donovan Denslow, Missouri Baptist - mile (4:16.03) and 3000m (8:30.38)
    • Brenin Howell, Columbia College - shot put (15.69)
    • William Woods Distance Medley Team (10:12.47)
