Cougars Win Sixth-Straight Men's Outdoor T&F Title

St. Louis, Mo. - (Championship Page) The Columbia Cougars have claimed their sixth-straight American Midwest Conference (AMC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The league did not have an outdoor championship in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cougars scored 189 points, edging out Missouri Baptist who scored 187 points. William Woods finished with 169 points, while Williams Baptist (64) and Harris-Stowe (58) rounded out the top-five.
John Paul Morgan was named Newcomer of the Year after winning the shot put (14.73-meters), discus (43.11-meters) and placing fifth in the javelin (42.02-meters) and eighth in the hammer (39.36-meters).
Freshman of the Year, Outstanding Field Athlete and Athlete of the Meet honors went to Grant Erisman of Columbia. Erisman placed first in the triple jump (13.29-meters) and long jump (6.45-meters), second in the javelin (47.04-meters) and 4X100-meter relay (44.56), sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.86) and seventh in the high jump (1.73-meters).
Carter Hemeyer of Health Sciences & Pharmacy finished first in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:17.64), second in the 800-meter run (2:00.33) and 1500-meter run (4:01.00), fourth in the 4X800-meter relay (3:49.52) and sixth in the 4X400-meter relay (3:49.52) and was named Outstanding Track Athlete.
After leading the Cougars to the team title, the Columbia coaching staff of Brennan Cape, Mason McCaleb and Meaghan Rice was named Coaching Staff of the Year.
Jordan Crawford (MBU) hit the NAIA "A" Standard in the 5000-meter race walk with a time of 21:33.42, qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor Championships again. He currently ranks first in the NAIA with a time of 21:24.71.
