William Woods Wins AMC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship

St. Louis, Mo.- [Championship Page] The William Woods Owls won their fifth American Midwest Conference (AMC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Thursday at Spartan Field in St. Louis, Mo.

The Owls scored 257 points to beat out Columbia who claimed 227 points. Missouri Baptist (116), Haskell (61) and Williams Baptist (53) rounded out the top-five team scores.

Championship Notes:

• Kyle Belgrave from William Woods was named Athlete of the Meet and Newcomer of the Year after finishing in the top-three of four events. He won both the 200-meter dash (22.51) and long jump (6.87m), finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.04) and third in the high jump (1.90m).

• Landon Dunlap from William Woods was named Outstanding Track Athlete. He won the 1500-meters by over five seconds (3:57.40), finished third in the 5000-meters (15:57.71) and ran the anchor on the winning 4x800 relay team (7:45.10).

• Grant Erisman from Columbia College won Outstanding Field Athlete. He won the javelin throw; he threw 48.90 meters. Erisman also placed first in long jump (6.87m) and third in triple jump (13.01m).

• Blaine Brodersen from William Woods won Freshman of the Year, completing a sweep of the award in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field. He placed first in steeplechase (10:14.54), fourth in the 800-meter run (1:57.72), fifth in the high jump (1.84m), and helped the Owls win the 4x400 (3:23.19) and 4x800 (7:45.10).

• Haskell Indian Nations's Charles Mason threw 16.22m in shot put to earn "A" Standard and set an AMC record in the event.

• Mayson DeRousse for Missouri Baptist hit "A" Standard in pole vault with an AMC record vault of 5.01m.

• Columbia's Jason Parker hit "B" Standard in the high jump with an AMC-record jump of 2.02m. Landon Dunlap for William Woods earned a NAIA "B" Standard in the 1500m (3:57.40). William Woods 4x800m team also hit "B" Standard (7:45.10).

• Ten events had repeat winners - 1500-meters (Landon Dunlap, William Woods), 5000-meters (Donovan Denslow, Missouri Baptist), 10,000 (Denslow), 110-hurdles (Josh Brown, Central Baptist), 400-hurdles (Riley Solan, William Woods), high jump (Jason Parker, Columbia), hammer throw (Isaiah Hoelscher, Hannibal-LaGrange), pole vault (Mayson DeRousse, Missouri Baptist), 4x400 relay (William Woods) and 4x800 relay (William Woods).
