St. Louis, Mo. – Alma Garcia of Cottey and Ella Schouten of Columbia were named this week's American Midwest Conference (AMC) Softball Players of the Week presented by AMCOnTheGo, announced the conference office this afternoon. 

AMC Softball Hitter of the Week

Alma Garcia, Cottey

So. | UTL | Sahuarita, Ariz.

  • Led the Comets to a 6-0 week, including sweeps over Hannibal-LaGrange, Mission, and Central Baptist.
  • Hit .733 (11-for-15) with a 1.867 slugging percentage and .789 on-base percentage.
  • Recorded three doubles, one triple, four homers, eight RBI, and 12 runs.
  • Stole one base.

Other Notable Performance:

  • Abigail Zismer, Columbia: went 10-for-15 with a double, one RBI, and five runs. Averaged .667 with a .733 slugging percentage and a .688 on-base percentage. Led the Cougars to a split with CBC and a sweep over MU.
  • Ashlyn Michael, Williams Baptist: set a new WBU record for doubles in a single season with four this week in a 5-1 week. Averaged .500 and on-base percentage, with a .818 slugging percentage. Recorded 11 hits, four doubles, one homer, four RBI, and four runs.

  • Earned two wins in the circle, including a 5-0 shutout over Central Baptist and a part of a no-hitter over Mission.
  • In 10.0 innings pitched, she struck out 16 while allowing three hits.
  • Posted a 0.00 ERA on the week.
  • Fourth AMC Pitcher of the Week award of the season.

Other Notable Performance:

  • Emberlin Caldwell, Williams Baptist: went 3-0 with a save in four appearances. Allowed just two earned runs with 13 strikeouts in 20.0 innings pitched. Did not allow any earned runs in two starts against HLGU and Stephens, and tossed a perfect frame to secure the sweep against HLGU.
